🌍 Meliá Hotels International achieved carbon neutrality for 4,000 events across 40 strategic hotels in 2024, coinciding with World Environment Day on June 5. Through the "Road to Net Zero Events" program, 5,387 tons of CO₂ were offset. Renewable energy reduced emissions by over 1,300 tons, with the rest offset via Climatetrade credits for a clean energy project in the Dominican Republic. Meliá Palma Bay and Palau de Congressos de Palma also reached total carbon neutrality.

Riu Hotels & Resorts, with AI support, predicts and calculates carbon footprints at Riu Plaza España. Riu has reduced its carbon footprint by 50% in the last two years.

He condemned the lack of support for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), essential for meeting future environmental goals. Europe demands airlines use 2% SAF by 2030 without providing support. Current emissions targets, aimed at a modest 5% reduction by 2030, are unlikely to be met. SAF costs airlines double compared to regular fuel.

Renovations completed in two phases by November 2024. The hotel aims for BREEAM Certification by 2025. With a 3% EBITDA margin increase, a 33% reduction in operational costs, and expected ADR and RGI increases of 35% and 30% by 2027. Investments in solar panels and aerothermal systems are planned for decarbonization.

💻 En 2025, el Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero (ITH) celebra su 20º aniversario. Álvaro Carrillo, director general desde hace más de 17 años, ha liderado la evolución del ITH como agente de cambio en el sector hotelero español. Fundado por la CEHAT, el ITH facilita tecnología a pequeños hoteles. En junio, el ITH organiza el Innovation Summit, y el 19 de junio, los TH Awards. Soluciones sostenibles y tecnológicas son clave en su enfoque actual.

Key barriers are cost and lack of visibility. 45% don't know where to find eco-friendly options. The hotel sector can help by promoting sustainability certifications, providing filters for eco-choices, collaborating with local businesses, and educating guests. Visibility and integration of sustainable practices could be pivotal in the competitive upcoming season.

🌍 Príncipe Harry visita Shanghái en mayo de 2025 para abogar por el turismo sostenible. Organizó una conferencia destacando metas ambientales para 2030 como fundador de Travalyst. Travalyst busca desarrollar una herramienta online para medir las emisiones de CO2 de los vuelos, a pesar del aumento en la aviación y la falta de combustibles SAF. La herramienta pretende orientar a los viajeros hacia opciones menos contaminantes, enfrentando desafíos como la medición precisa de emisiones por pasajero.
