  • Miguel Praga
  • 3 March 2025
🛫 A Ryanair Boeing 737 flying from Oporto to London Stansted diverted urgently to Santander above the Cantabrian Sea due to a passenger's "serious medical problems." Air traffic controllers facilitated a continuous descent and direct approach to runway 29 while medical assistance was coordinated on the ground. Recent weeks have seen a high number of similar incidents in Spanish airspace, often involving elderly passengers with serious health issues. In mid-February, a passenger on a Jet2 flight from Tenerife Sur to East Midlands died, with an emergency landing in Santiago de Compostela where medics could only confirm the death.

🏖️ In 2024, 12 million Germans visited Spain, primarily drawn by its climate and beach resorts. Gran Canaria emerged as Germany's top luxury travel destination, followed by Dubai and thirdly, Kos (Greece). Travelers show a slight decrease in stay duration and a preference for low season months, especially November and March. The highest prices are observed in Dubai. Kirsten Feld-Türkis from Prophet Consulting highlighted that 30% of German travelers are financially equipped for high-end vacations, representing around 20.6 million people, while the very rich make up only 2.5% of the population. The study found a resurgence of organized travel packages, with 44% preferring this option and 56% of millennials valuing convenience and security. More than half of travelers prefer specialized advice, utilizing both digital and physical channels, with online dominating but preferences vary. Quality-price ratio is key, with 72% of customers demanding high quality.
