Gatwick, the world's busiest single-runway airport, will repurpose a taxiway for simultaneous use—primarily for takeoffs, while the existing runway will handle landings. The expansion faced minor conditions and promises of sustainability and job creation. Heathrow's procedures will be underway before operations begin.

Inversión y hechos: el camino de los hoteles para mejorar su reputación

  • Automatic
  • 26 February 2025
🏚 Spanish hotels are implementing innovative measures for efficiency and social responsibility, leading to a 21.1% drop in emissions in 2020 due to Covid, a 9.6% increase in 2021 with travel resumption, and a 6.8% reduction in 2022, falling below 2019 levels. The average hotel energy consumption is between 30-50 kWh per square meter per year, accounting for 14-15% of operating costs, sometimes reaching 25%. Iberostar Hotels & Resorts aims for zero emissions by 2030, advancing the industry goal by 20 years; they installed green hydrogen fuel cells in a Mallorca hotel and switched to renewable electricity. Riu Hotels & Resorts installed 2,418 solar panels in Mauritius hotels. Hotels are also focusing on water efficiency, reducing average consumption from 200 liters to 120 liters per guest per day with new technologies and reusing water. They are adopting the 3R principle: reduce, reuse, recycle, such as Garden Hotels producing compost from kitchen waste and reducing single-use plastics, saving 25,000 bottles per hotel per season. Spanish hotel food waste is 1.078 million tons daily, with initiatives like AI monitoring waste and selling excess food through Too Good To Go to combat it.
