  • Alex Cuenca
  • 25 January 2025
✈ A passenger was forcibly removed from a Ryanair flight from Lanzarote to Santiago de Compostela for refusing to comply with crew instructions. Claiming to be a UN diplomat, he demanded to be seated at the front but would not show his boarding pass, leading to a confrontation. Security and Civil Guard were called to deplane him as he resisted. Air travel regulations empower the captain to order expulsion, with police assistance if required, for non-compliance.

  • Juan Mestre
  • 25 January 2025
🛫 Ryanair has cut 800,000 seats and eliminated 12 routes in Spain, impacting airports with minimal air traffic, sometimes labeled "ghost airports." The Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, refuses to meet with Ryanair until they restore suspended and reduced services. Aena, managing 46 airports in Spain, insists airport taxes are fair, despite 32 of them spending more than they earn, and 5 handling fewer than 30 passengers daily. Madrid, Barcelona, Balearic and Canary Island airports remain profitable, contrasting with Huesca Airport's average of one passenger per day.

  • Samuel Cristobal
  • 24 January 2025
📄 On January 24, 2025, the article outlines that the "recurso de alzada" in Spain is a critical administrative law concept for businesses to challenge public administration decisions. The recourse must be filed within a natural month and decided within 3 months, extendable by another 3 months for exceptional cases. It differs from the "recurso de reposición" as it is reviewed by a higher administrative body, not the one that made the initial decision, as stated in Law 39/2015. Personal data, details of the challenged act, legal arguments, requested relief, date, and signature are required for validity.

  • Alex Cuenca
  • 23 January 2025
🛫 UK government announced the removal of Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for transit passengers, easing administrative burdens for travelers not staying in the country. However, the visa cost surges by 60%, sparking concerns in the travel sector. Industry representatives warn this, along with the Air Passenger Duty increase, could discourage demand and harm UK's tourism and transit competitiveness. ETIAS, a similar system costing 7 euros and valid for 3 years, affects citizens from 60 countries, is part of the broader European context.

  • Alex Cuenca
  • 23 January 2025
🚩 USO union celebrates a Tenerife Social Court ruling allowing a Cantabrian flight attendant living in Tenerife an early retirement with a 0.30 reduction coefficient for years worked as cabin crew. This could mean retiring 3 years earlier for every 10 years worked, potentially up to 6 years in advance. This impacts over 30,000 Spanish cabin crew members, previously excluded from hazardous professions eligible for reduced pensions.

  • Alex Cuenca
  • 23 January 2025
💸 Spanish travel agency associations CEAV, ACAVE, UNAV, and Fetave presented a manifesto against the controversial 'Gran Hermano' Turístico policy at Fitur fair. Agency representatives and about a hundred travel agents joined at Turespaña's stand, where the manifesto was read to the General Director of Tourism Policies, Ana Muñoz. They oppose Royal Decree 933/2021, demanding exclusion from its scope, which they argue harms competitiveness, infringes data protection laws, and imposes unfeasible technical requirements. Failure to address these concerns may lead to legal action.

  • Miguel Praga
  • 22 January 2025
🛫 Heathrow and Gatwick, London's main airports, are at full capacity. Under Conservative leaders—David Cameron, Boris Johnson, and Ricki Sunak—expansion efforts were stalled by bureaucracy. The Labour Party, now in power, swiftly removed these blocks. Heathrow operates at near-full capacity, and Gatwick is the world's busiest single-runway airport. Labour's economic growth commitment is evident as they allowed London City Airport to extend operations and plan for 1.5 million new homes in the country.
