La ETA no es un visado, se debe obtener antes de la salida y se recomienda solicitarla al menos tres días antes de comprar los billetes. La autorización está digitalmente asociada al pasaporte y no garantiza la entrada en el Reino Unido. La ETA caduca a los dos años o con el pasaporte, lo que ocurra primero, y cuesta 10 libras, con un anunciado aumento a 16 libras en una fecha por determinar.
