Alarma en Tailandia por la caída inesperada del turismo

  • Miguel Praga
  • 3 May 2025
📌 In Tailandia, tourism is facing a critical decline, prompting Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong to hold an urgent meeting with stakeholders on a recent Wednesday. Key participants included ATTA, THA, the Tourism Council of Thailand, and the Airlines Association. Since 2025, visitor arrivals from major markets like China have dropped, despite an increase in individual tourist spending. China is Thailand's top market, followed by Malaysia, Russia, India, and South Korea. The crisis is partly attributed to a perceived decrease in safety, linked to unimplemented police measures.

Ryanair juega con Boeing y amenaza con los chinos

  • Miguel Praga
  • 3 May 2025
💸 Michael O'Leary, Ryanair CEO, threatens to switch to Comac planes over Boeing if Chinese prices are 10-20% better. Comac has produced only five planes in three years, and its C919 isn't expected to be certified in Europe until at least 2028, making the shift currently impossible for Ryanair. O'Leary is skilled in leveraging media for publicity, even making unsubstantiated claims like offering alternatives to passengers not wishing to fly on Ryanair's Max planes after past crashes.

Ryanair: “Edreams envía datos de clientes europeos a China”

  • Miguel Praga
  • 1 May 2025
🛫 Ryanair today accused Edreams of overcharging consumers and "deliberately" providing the airline with "false email addresses and postal addresses, as well as using Chinese payment data." The low-cost carrier has received thousands of complaints about inflated prices on bookings, including flights, seat selection, baggage, etc., through the online agency. Some passengers paid up to 52% more than Ryanair's price. Dara Brady, a Ryanair executive, expressed concern over Edreams' use of false information and sending European passenger data to third parties in China.

🚨 SNCF employees in France face a one-week strike starting this Monday, April 5. French air traffic controllers, after months of calm, will strike on May 9, 10, and 11, as announced by the second-largest syndicate, joined by CNA. France's Transport Minister, Philippe Tabarot, urged reasonableness, and the SNCF's director general sent a four-page letter to employees warning against the high costs of a strike, which usually exceed salary increase demands.

Booking alerta del impacto de las políticas de EEUU

  • Alex Cuenca
  • 1 May 2025
💰 Booking warns of the potential negative impact of geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainty potentially affecting travel demand. In their latest quarterly report, the company, despite a stable global trend, sees risks due to tensions that could impact consumer spending and partner behavior. Booking, with about 90% of revenues from abroad, is less vulnerable to U.S. internal fluctuations compared to Airbnb or Expedia. The first quarter saw $4.762 billion in revenue, up 7.9% year-on-year, with operating income up 34% to $1.092 billion. However, net profit fell 57% to $333 million due to non-recurring factors. Accommodation bookings grew to 319 million nights, exceeding forecasts. Gross travel sales hit $46.7 billion. Second-quarter growth is projected at 4%-6% for nights and 10%-12% for gross bookings and revenue, but external factors may affect these estimates.

Caída del 30% en el turismo a Cuba desde enero a hoy

  • Miguel Praga
  • 30 April 2025
🇨🇺 The Cuban government reported a 29.7% drop in tourism for the first quarter compared to the same period in 2024, with a loss of 237,000 tourists, totaling only 571,000 international visitors. The decline was primarily in the Russian and Canadian markets, as well as among Cuban expatriates. Russian tourism nearly halved, while Canadian visits fell by 32% from 399,000 to 272,000. Other countries with decreased tourism to Cuba include the United States, Germany, France, Argentina, Mexico, and Spain. No signs indicate an imminent recovery in tourist volumes, exacerbating the country's economic crisis.
