FEHM: Hay predisposición para acercar posturas con los sindicatos

  • Hosteltur
  • 16 April 2025
🏠 Over the past 8 years, tourist accommodation in the Balearic Islands has grown by 5% (23,000 places), with vacation rentals increasing by 135% (92,000 places). In Mallorca, conventional lodging increased by 6% (19,000 places), while vacation rentals jumped by 172% (66,000 places). The population has risen by nearly 42% in the last 20 years, with residential housing growing by only 21%. Salary negotiations in the Balearic hospitality industry are ongoing, with unions demanding an 8% raise this year, 6% in 2026, and 5% in 2027. Hotel employers consider a 19% increase over three years unsustainable, given that wages have risen by 11% over the past decade. The reduction of the workweek to 37.5 hours is estimated to cost an additional 6.15%. For Semana Santa, hotel openings are at 92%, with occupancy expected to average around 70%, reaching up to 80% in some areas. March employment exceeded 500,000, 10,000 more than in the previous year. The Balearic Islands anticipate around 20 million tourists this year, despite concerns about tourism saturation and infrastructure deficits.

  • Hosteltur
  • 16 April 2025
🏨 Impression Isla Mujeres by Secrets, designed by Andrés Cajiga and ALIA Made in Architecture, emphasizes luxury without compromising environmental commitment, utilizing local materials, solar panels, and a water purification plant to eliminate plastic use. The hotel was built by repurposing an existing structure to minimize impact and has been voted the world's most Instagrammable hotel by Luxury Travel Advisor for two consecutive years. It also supports local marine conservation and fishing communities. MIL Studios' project for NH Collection Madrid Eurobuilding showcases adaptable 'flex living' spaces designed for emotional well-being. Only You Boutique Hotel Madrid's YOUnique Arts Club functions as a living gallery in collaboration with Maza.Art, selling artworks and uniting design, creativity, and artistic expression. Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol in Cádiz by Daar Arquitectura integrates local identity and vernacular architecture, using local stone and artisan techniques. Barceló Playa Blanca in Lanzarote, designed by CMV Architects, features a lobby that frames the ocean and harmonizes with the volcanic landscape, spreading over 100,000 square meters with 720 rooms. The hotel design trends of 2025 prioritize adaptability, emotional connection, deep sustainability, interdisciplinary fusion, and local valorization.

Negociación de última hora para evitar la huelga de hostelería en Tenerife

  • Hosteltur
  • 15 April 2025
💰 Ashotel's president Jorge Marichal proposes a 5% wage increase for tourism sector employees in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where unions have called a strike for Thursday and Friday of Holy Week. The increase, according to the hostelry union, is only 4% and deemed "insufficient." Workers will vote on the strike this Tuesday. The proposal by Ashotel is partially retroactive from July, potentially nearing a 5% rise. Manuel Fitas, spokesperson for the Mesa Sindical de Hostelería, believes the offer falls short of the 6.25% demanded by unions, noting the current 4% plus a 2.25% increase would match the lost purchasing power. Negotiations continue with the looming strike and future convention discussions at stake.

Guerra mundial por el talento en el sector hospitality

  • Hosteltur
  • 15 April 2025
🏥 Spanish hotels face a critical challenge: a shortage of qualified talent. A roundtable discussion at the Tourism & Economy Barcelona Summit 2025 on April 3 highlighted this issue and potential solutions for attracting and retaining talent in an increasingly competitive sector. Manuel Butler, Spain's Tourism Counsellor in London, emphasized sustainability as a key factor for talent attraction. Carlos Díez de la Lastra, CEO of Les Roches Global, warned of a global talent war and noted that the demand for skilled workers, especially in the premium sector, exceeds supply. Javier Caballero of McKinsey stressed the importance of integrating talent as a strategic pillar, while ESADE professor Josep Mª Sayeras spoke on the need for profound organizational culture changes. Overall, the debate stressed that sustainability, continuous training, attractive career plans, and employee valuation are crucial for transforming the sector and making it appealing to global talent.
