El turismo y la hostelería fijan población en el interior de España

🏕 The report "Contribución del turismo al desarrollo territorial en España" by Competur was presented yesterday, revealing tourism's positive correlation with public services and population retention, especially in rural Spain. About 5 million Spanish workers are employed in tourism-related sectors, nearly 25% of Spain's total employment. A thousand tourists in Spain create an average of 3.3 hospitality jobs, 0.4 in restaurants, 0.5 in travel agencies, and 4.9 in rental and transport. Municipalities gain €0.58 per capita in revenue and spend €0.56 per capita per thousand tourists. Spain has 1,300 municipalities without bars/restaurants and 2,700 with just one. Tourism supports educational centers, pharmacies, and bank branches in rural areas, reducing the risk of depopulation.

Al menos 69 fallecidos en el incendio de un hotel de esquí en Turquía

🔥 In Turkey, a fire at the 12-story Grand Kartal hotel in Kartalkaya ski resort, built entirely of wood and opened in 1998, resulted in at least 69 deaths and 68 injuries among the 238 occupants. Four people, including the owner, have been arrested in connection with the tragedy situated midway between Istanbul and Ankara. The fire started around 3:30 AM local time and took firefighters approximately ten hours to extinguish, with 90% of the hotel's 161 rooms occupied, many due to school winter holidays. The wooden construction and location hindered firefighting efforts. Around 300 individuals were in the hotel at the time, and authorities have imposed an information ban to prevent false news and protect victim's families.

SmartRental desembarca en Reino Unido con su marca más disruptiva

💰 SmartRental Group (SRG) closed 2024 with a record performance: revenues, RevPAR, and EBITDA grew by 44%, 30%, and 33% respectively from the previous year. They expanded into the UK with Malacuna brand and signed three assets there. New projects are underway in Portugal including Smartr Porto Bonfim and more in Lisbon and Oporto. Two new brands were introduced: Evoca Living and Lemonade, with the latter's first asset in Santiago de Compostela nearing 1,000 rooms. SRG's portfolio now manages 4,373 rooms and 5,031 beds. For 2025, SRG forecasts a 27% growth in RevPAR and a 73% increase in EBITDA compared to 2024.

Fergus estrenará un hotel 4 estrellas superior en Playa de Palma

🏨 Fergus Group will incorporate a 120-room hotel into its portfolio, the Palma Beach Hotel, to be rebranded as the 4-star superior Fergus Style Palma Beach in 2026.
