Vueling y la UPC inician ensayos con combustibles sostenibles para aviación en motores de laboratorio
✈ Vueling and ESEIAAT (UPC) are testing Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) in laboratory jet engines to assess their impact on engine performance and advance air transport decarbonization. The collaboration includes research group TUAREG and examines various SAF types, such as synthetic fuels made from captured CO2 and green hydrogen, and organic fuels from waste and plants like guayule. SAF can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80% during their lifecycle and are compatible with current aircraft without modifications. They are benchmarked against conventional JET A-1 fuel. A study commissioned by Vueling to PwC suggests the SAF industry in Catalonia could create an economic impact of €10.64 billion and over 41,000 new jobs.
