El frenazo súbito del turismo

  • Miguel Praga
  • 26 August 2024
🏖️ The U.S. tourism sector has halted, with major business groups announcing a sudden stop until at least the end of the year. Stocks of affected companies, primarily in lodging and transportation, are performing poorly with declining quotations. In Europe, indicators like Ryanair's significant drop in value suggest a potential slowdown, though less clear-cut than in the U.S. The average hotel room price in the Balearic Islands has reached €184 per night, almost doubling rates from two years ago due to an unusual economic 'boom' in demand alongside lagging supply.

Ryanair ya habla de crisis tras unos resultados que “no fueron buenos”

  • Miguel Praga
  • 26 August 2024
✈️ Ryanair's CEO Eddie Wilson, in an interview with La Stampa, discussed aviation's current crisis and the company's long-term thinking, highlighting a 30% growth in 2023 due to early traffic resumption. Despite a difficult last quarter, Ryanair remains profitable, having ordered 300 new planes without leasing or debt, outpacing Easyjet and WizzAir in low-cost competition. In the fiscal first quarter (April-June), Ryanair's profits fell 46% with a 10% increase in traffic to 55.5 million, due to a 15% fall in fares, rising operational costs, and Boeing delays.

  • Automatic
  • 23 August 2024
🏖️ In Spain, the rural tourism sector faces challenges such as occasional excessive demand in specific locations and short periods. Asetur President, Pedro Carreño, notes Spain has roughly 8,000 villages with about 15,000 rural lodging homes. INE data shows a 2.29% increase in overnight stays and a 3.23% rise in travelers in this market, with an average stay of 2.45 days. Japón se encamina a un nuevo récord en la llegada de visitantes

  • Automatic
  • 23 August 2024
🖥 Japan saw a tourist surge in July with 3.3 million foreign visitors, marking a 42% increase over July last year and surpassing three million for the fifth consecutive month. This upward trend suggests the possibility of breaking the annual record of 31.88 million from 2019. The July 2023 figure represented over a 10% increase compared to July 2019. Leading nationalities included China (776,500 visitors), South Korea (757,700), Taiwan (571,700), Hong Kong (279,100), and Thailand (53,500), with Spanish visitors up by 44% to 18,700. Tourism in Japan is further stimulated by relaxed COVID-19 restrictions and a weaker yen. To manage overtourism, Kyoto’s Gion district and Mount Fuji introduced restrictions and fees for tourists. Iberia will launch direct flights from Madrid to Tokyo on October 27, three times a week.
