Identifican más de 15.000 pisos turísticos ilegales en Madrid

  • Alex Cuenca
  • 24 March 2025
🏠 The Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030 identified over 15,200 illegal tourist homes in Madrid. EFE reports 16,335 rental listings were found, contrasting with only 1,131 licensed properties. The Ministry urged Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida to remove the adverts and follow Barcelona's example, which effectively curbed illegal rentals. After Booking was fined in December 2024, the Ministry emphasized the city's responsibility to enforce local regulations.

  • Miguel Praga
  • 23 March 2025
🛫 After a fire closed London's Heathrow Airport, hotel algorithms in West London charged high prices to stranded passengers. Easyjet's Gatwick to Madrid flight cost €333 for last-minute Friday bookings. Hotels like Holiday Inn and Hilton Garden charged $432 per night, compared to their usual rate of £120. Travelers with connecting flights through Heathrow were covered by their airline, but others faced significant out-of-pocket accommodation costs.

Mis simpatías por Trump

  • Miguel Praga
  • 22 March 2025
🛫 Heathrow Airport in London, Europe's busiest airport, shut down entirely on Friday due to a fire at an electrical substation a few kilometers away. Operating at 97% capacity, the closure affected 1,350 flights across various major cities from Madrid to Dublin, Frankfurt to Amsterdam, and Washington to New York. The emergency electrical system failed to activate, causing disruption despite multiple regulatory layers and oversight by the UK Civil Aviation Authority. The article also references Donald Trump's approach to dissolving bureaucratic structures.

Bustinduy: ¿quieres dejar que me engañen?

💰 Since 2005, the author has frequently flown with Ryanair, facing issues only early on with credit/debit card charges. Despite criticisms, they find Ryanair's flights to be cheap, punctual, and safe, consciously choosing to fly with them even if others consider it a deception. They acknowledge the airline's self-interest but note that their planes often fly full, suggesting many others also accept the terms offered by Ryanair.

El culpable no vive en el norte

  • Miguel Praga

🚩 Seven anti-tourism activist groups in Mallorca wrote a letter to visitors asking them to refrain from coming, blaming tourists for the island's tourism saturation crisis. The letter suggests Mallorca's half-a-million hotel accommodations, made in the last century, and the recent approval of 100,000 legal tourist apartment and home spaces by the last government, are not the tourists' fault. No political party, not even the left-wing ones, suggest eliminating tourist accommodations in the Balearics, unlike Barcelona's planned suspension of 10,000 vacation apartment permits by 2028. The anti-tourism letter expresses hostility and lack of hospitality towards visitors.

Japón crea un modelo con precios turísticos más altos

  • Miguel Praga
  • 21 March 2025
🏕 Japan targets 60 million tourists by 2030 but implements a dual pricing system to combat overtourism. Foreigners will pay 8,800 yen versus 6,930 yen for locals at Junguria Okinawa Park opening this July. Himeji Castle differentiates by residence, not nationality. Similar policies exist in Thailand (Emerald Temple) and India (Taj Mahal). Ordinary tourist expenses like hotels, consumption, and transportation remain unaffected.

Sector turístico y Generalitat, enfrentados por la tasa turística

  • Automatic
  • 21 March 2025
🏠 Catalonian lodging sector associations met with Generalitat representatives to express "total rejection" of the tourist tax hike announced on February 27, after an agreement to double the levy. The increase mandates that at least 25% fund housing policies for vulnerable groups. Municipalities can now add a surcharge, previously exclusive to Barcelona, potentially raising it to €8. The meeting on March 20 included major association and government figures, yet businesses criticized the lack of a conclusive economic impact report and the absence of constructive dialogue.

El descuento de residentes, en el alambre por la inacción del Gobierno

  • Miguel Praga
  • 21 March 2025
🛫 Javier Gándara, president of the Asociación de Líneas Aéreas (ALA), warns about a financial strain caused by the Spanish Government's non-payment of subsidies owed to airlines for resident discounts in the Canary Islands, Balearics, Ceuta, and Melilla. The unpaid amount for 2024 reaches €425 million, nearly depleting the 2025 budget of €560 million, initially allocated to cover these expenses. The expected cost for 2025 is €1.250 billion. Airline capacity between the Canary Islands and the mainland increased by 9.6% to 61.81 million seats in 2024, and connections between the Balearics and the mainland rose by 6% to 55 million seats.
