Baleares: la hostelería rechaza la subida salarial que plantean los sindicatos

  • Alex Cuenca
  • 10 September 2024
🍴 Hospitality representatives in Baleares resist wage increase demands of over 5% for 2025, as proposed by UGT and CCOO unions. Economic challenges cited include a shortened season and decreased demand leading to early nightclub closures. Key figures like Juan Miguel Ferrer and Miguel Pérez-Marsá (CAEB and Abone) and María Frontera (FEHM) emphasize the need for moderation, citing significant raises in past years: 5% in 2018 and 2019, and 3.5% to 5% between 2021 and 2023. UGT and CCOO aim for a 5% raise for 160,000 workers, a quarter of Baleares' workforce, and advocate for reduced working hours and extended employment guarantees for seasonal workers, currently at six months.

  • Miguel Praga
  • 9 September 2024
✈ Ryanair, the Irish low-cost airline, will have to repay state aid granted by Germany, which amounts to between €13 and €14 million, as ruled by the European Commission. The public funding, which was given for marketing agreements between the state of Rhineland and Ryanair, as well as for training aid, has been deemed incompatible with EU rules following an investigation started in October 2018. Additionally, Ryanair is required to pay back the interest, and Frankfurt-Hahn airport must return €1.25 million.

La alta velocidad descarrila en España por la guerra de precios

  • Juan Mestre
  • 8 September 2024
🏩 Ouigo reported a 17% increase in losses last year, reaching €43 million, while Renfe’s losses grew by €14 million to €65 million. The high-speed rail sector in Spain faces financial challenges due to intense price competition. Despite ticket price reductions benefiting consumers, the average high-speed rail fare stands at €25, with unsustainable operational costs. Spain's rail liberalization led to a 40% projected rise in passenger numbers, yet companies may moderate aggressive pricing to end the low-cost carrier price war.
