  • 25 November 2024
🚀 A Boeing 737 operated by Spanish airline Swiftair for DHL crashed near Vilnius Airport, Lithuania, during landing approach. Departing from Leipzig, Germany, at 03:00 local time (02:00 GMT), the crash occurred 1.5 hours later, as reported by Flightradar24. Rescue services found one casualty and transported three survivors, including the pilot, to the hospital. The plane hit a two-story building; however, the 12 occupants were unharmed. Possible crash causes include human or technical failure, and terrorism hasn't been ruled out due to GPS signal jamming in the region. Air Europa abandona su estrategia para esquivar reembolsos

  • Miguel Praga
  • 25 November 2024
✈ Air Europa reversed its controversial strategy of discouraging refund requests after cancellations, as exposed by the newspaper "Preferente". The airline previously emphasized options for vouchers or changing dates/destinations in bold, large letters, while the refund option was mentioned in smaller print. Following the report, Air Europa complied with consumer protection laws. Non-compliance could result in contract nullification and fines ranging from 10,000 to 100,000 euros, as stated by Wings to Claim CEO Carlos Corbalán.

Ryanair: los votos son los votos

  • Miguel Praga
  • 24 November 2024
✈ Spanish representatives at the European Union have consistently voted for the liberalization and standardization of air transport regulations. However, Spain is known for imposing sanctions to align with public sentiment and gain votes, despite knowing that these actions, influenced by their voting in the EU, may ultimately be inconsequential—as seen with Galicia's failed sanction against Vueling for similar reasons. The contradiction aims to publicly position Spanish politicians as champions against injustices they themselves endorse at the EU level.

También llegan a Pompeya los límites al acceso de turistas

  • Miguel Praga
  • 24 November 2024
🏟 Last summer, Naples' area saw chaos with four million tourists visiting the ruins from the year 79 AD eruption of Vesuvius. Gabriel Zuchtriegel, the site's director, announced a daily tourist cap below 20,000. Personalized tickets with full visitor names were introduced the previous Friday, sold with specific entry times. Efforts include diverting tourists to less visited sites like Ercolano, Stabia, and others, with free bus services aimed at promoting slow, sustainable tourism across the UNESCO site's surrounding region.

Rusia admite que 34 de sus 66 A320 no vuelan por falta de repuestos

  • Miguel Praga
  • 24 November 2024
✈ In mid-November, Russian airlines had grounded 34 out of 66 Airbus A320 and A321neo aircraft due to a lack of spare parts from sanctions linked to the Ukraine war. Most affected is S7, Russia's main private airline, with 31 of their 39 A320 or A321neo planes, aged 3 to 7 years, grounded. Other Russian airlines operate 27 similar aircraft with less affected Leap engines from CFM, French manufacturer. Russian authorities had earlier claimed that by early 2024, new locally made planes would be supplied, a claim now seemingly undermined by current events.

IATA: “España aduce una ley de una dictadura fascista”

  • Miguel Praga
  • 23 November 2024
✈ IATA criticizes Spain for violating European legislation by penalizing low-cost airlines' baggage policies, with a €179 million fine for charging for hand luggage. Spain's attempt in 2010 to impose similar fines was rejected by the European Court of Justice. IATA compares the situation to mandatory charges for breakfast in hotels and insists on travelers' need for choices. Director General Willie Walsh argues Spain lacks authority to ban such ticket practices, citing a decade-old European Court ruling.

  • 22 November 2024
✈ Ryanair threatens to cut its flights in France by 50% due to newly approved taxes for the upcoming year, potentially leaving ten regional airports completely. The "solidarity tax," set at 9.5 euros per European flight, is a significant increase from the current 2.63 euros and will take effect on January 1. Notably, Ryanair closed its Bordeaux base following airport price hikes. The airline currently flies to 22 regional airports in France, with the possibility of reducing that number to just twelve.
