Los hoteles españoles salvan el invierno gracias al largo radio

  • Miguel Praga
  • 16 December 2024
🏨 Spanish hotels anticipate a positive winter season with occupancy up by 3.3 points compared to 2023, alongside earlier bookings and sustained room price increases. Despite concerns over declining interest from traditional European markets like Germany and the Nordic countries, there's a rise in long-haul market interest: North America (+21%), Latin America (+8%), Southeast Asia and Australia (+29%). Spending power in Spain is expected to rise by 6.5% versus 2023, bolstered by economic recovery and stronger dollar and pound against the euro. Hotel quality improvements have raised 4 and 5-star accommodations by 11% since 2019, propelling revenues per available room (ReVPAR) 17% above pre-pandemic levels.

Confirmado el recelo de Hidalgo padre hacia Aldama

  • Miguel Praga
  • 16 December 2024
🕵 Juan José Hidalgo, founder of Globalia, expressed distrust towards intermediary Víctor de Aldama as early as May, July, and September prior to their business separation in 2022. Hidalgo warned others about Aldama, dubbing him a "swindler" during a hunting event in Toledo province, concerning a fraudulent hydrocarbons scheme. The Objective details these events, including Hidalgo's insistence on daily breakfast meetings during state bailout negotiations for Air Europa. Claudio Rivas considered breaking ties with Aldama after the warning but maintained their hydrocarbons business connection.

  • Miguel Praga
  • 16 December 2024
🚀 IAG’s venture with Air Europa cost €241 million, with €125 million paid as compensation to the Hidalgo family for not acquiring their company. IAG spent €100 million to purchase 20% of Air Europa and another €16 million to maintain its stake amid a capital increase. Despite not recovering €125 million, IAG's CEO Luis Gallego sees the 20% stake as a positive financial investment, suggesting its current value is 30% higher than at acquisition.

Crece la apuesta por las tiendas premium: W2M adelanta a Ávoris

  • Miguel Praga
  • 16 December 2024
💼 Major Spanish travel agencies are innovating with premium stores to attract higher-income clients, moving away from traditional discount models. Gabriel Subías initiated this trend in 2018, aiming for 20-25 B travel & Catai outlets in Spain within three years. Currently, B travel & Catai has 12 locations in cities like Madrid, Barcelona, and Bilbao. W2M, led by Subías, has 18 premium Grand Azulmarino stores and plans to open more by 2025. Pangea, since 2015, operates with a disruptive model, having 4 owned and 6 franchised stores, targeting 19 stores by year-end.

Europa prohíbe a Air Tanzania volar en todo su espacio aéreo

  • Miguel Praga
  • 15 December 2024
✈ Air Tanzania, with a fleet of three Dreamliners, four A220s, and two 737Max planes, has been banned from European airspace due to insufficiently reliable operational procedures as per the EU's Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The airline was added to a list of approximately 130 airlines restricted from the continent, following the recent removal of Pakistan International Airlines from the same list. The decision was made on Friday 13, in response to Tanzania's request to initiate flights to Europe. European technicians are set to visit Tanzania to conduct on-site checks. Air Tanzania's spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, has expressed ongoing discussions for slots and necessary licenses. The ban was unanimously agreed upon by the safety expert committee.

Vueling se refuerza en Florencia tras el acuerdo entre ITA y Lufthansa

  • Miguel Praga
  • 15 December 2024
✈ Lufthansa's acquisition of Ita, the new Alitalia, led to route concessions due to EU market dominance concerns. Easyjet capitalizes most, dedicating eight aircraft to new slots. Vueling also benefits; starting April, it connects Florence with Brussels Zaventem on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Air France gains, while Brussels Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, cannot take over vacated routes. Ryanair sticks to organic growth, focusing on Orio al Serio, Malpensa, and Bologna.

Lidl Francia fracasa vendiendo viajes y cierra

  • Miguel Praga
  • 15 December 2024
🏖️ Lidl's travel business, active in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and France, announced its closure in France, despite maintaining operations in other countries. Previously, the company retracted plans to close its travel subsidiary in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Lidl France's area director had resigned earlier, but this did not necessitate the closure. The company handles travel sales through brochures in supermarkets and online, with the latter proceeding as normal. The fate of trips purchased in-store and not yet undertaken remains uncertain. The closure's impact is minimal due to low travel sales volume, and Lidl has begun negotiating the termination of contracts with French suppliers. Lidl Viaggi in Italy continues unaffected.

Moncloa quiso parar la multa a las low cost por el equipaje de mano

  • Miguel Praga
  • 15 December 2024
✈ The Spanish Ministry of Consumer Affairs imposed a fine of 179 million euros on low-cost airlines for their hand luggage policy, which was contested by the socialist ministers due to concerns about the interpretation of Article 97 of the Air Navigation Law and potential non-compliance with European regulation 1008/2008 on pricing freedom. The fine's certainty is in question, with the State Attorney's Office offering a cautious opinion amid past legal precedents favoring airlines.

Lufthansa: adiós al ecologismo y pide combustibles SAF baratos

  • Miguel Praga
  • 14 December 2024
🚀 Lufthansa, the first European airline to challenge political correctness, addressed a letter to the European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen criticizing three EU policies: eco-friendliness, market openness, and the Russian boycott. They argue the EU-Qatar open skies agreement unfairly benefits Qatar, SAF fuels are six times more expensive without adequate supply, and the Russian airspace ban hinders competition as rerouting through Iran is costlier and lengthier.
