Ávoris: Competencia da luz verde a la compra de Dit Gestión

  • Miguel Praga
  • 10 February 2025
💰 The Spanish National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) approved Ávoris' acquisition of Dit Gestión, allowing the tourism conglomerate to exceed 3,000 sales outlets in Spain. CNMC received the transaction documents in November, with a ruling expected by the end of 2024, delayed due to Unida's non-payment of a fine from a 20216 cartel case. Prior to the acquisition, Ávoris had approximately 2,300 outlets, including brands Halcón Viajes, B travel, Viajes Ecuador, Geomoon, and a previously acquired group, Gea, with 500 offices.

Ávoris, VECI, Nautalia e IAG7, sin noticias de la CNMC

  • Miguel Praga
  • 10 February 2025
📌 Travel agencies implicated in an infringement procedure by Spain's National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) received no notifications throughout 2024. The CNMC initiated the sanctioning file in late 2023 with a two-year deadline to issue a verdict. Agencies involved include Ávoris, Viajes El Corte Inglés, Nautalia, and IAG7 Viajes, all maintaining their innocence. The CNMC investigation focused on the CORA public tender for managing the Spanish government's centralized travel services, specifically a potential allocation of different lots. Inspections were conducted from March 28 to 31, 2023, leading to the procedural opening in November. Potential fines could reach up to 10% of the implicated companies' total business volume.

Daño a largo plazo

  • Miguel Praga
  • 9 February 2025
📌 A Spanish government proposal to reduce working hours is politically favorable but could have long-term negative effects, particularly in the tourism sector, where productivity has been stagnant. Collective bargaining is suggested as a better approach to worker quality of life without damaging economic competitiveness. The legislation's potential side effects include wage imbalances and unrealistic general applicability. Despite tourism business owners' concerns, the government aims for voter appeal, with possible future consequences.

¿Por qué viajar a Latinoamérica es tan caro?

  • Miguel Praga
  • 9 February 2025
✈ Round-trip flights from Europe to the Far East approximately take 10 hours and can be found for as low as 600 euros, thanks to competition from Chinese airlines. Crossing the North Atlantic from any European city to the USA or Canada costs about the same, even without opting for stopover flights in Ireland or Iceland. However, flights from Madrid to any South American country, with similar durations, are impossible to find under 1000 euros, typically costing around 1200 euros. The price discrepancy is attributed to fewer operators and less intense competition in Latin America.

Los viajes del Imserso sufren “una severa crisis de calidad”

  • Miguel Praga
  • 9 February 2025
💰 The Spanish government's reduced budget for its social tourism program has led to a "severe quality crisis" in the travel experiences provided. Tirant eGob, a consultancy, warns this underfunding threatens the program's viability, especially with current inflation making the offered prices unsustainable for the hotel industry. Between 2011-2022, excluding the COVID years, the program generated €3 billion, nearly five times the €650 million invested by the state. An upcoming bid could revise pricing to align with industry needs without harming beneficiaries.

Norse palía su crisis alquilando seis Boeing 787 a IndiGo

  • Miguel Praga
  • 8 February 2025
✈️ Norse, successor of Norwegian for long-haul flights, struggles with business model consolidation and has a surplus of aircraft. Air Europa previously leased part of the fleet but returned five Boeing 787s. Norse leased six 787s to IndiGo, an Indian airline experiencing rapid growth, under an ACMI agreement. The first Norse aircraft will begin operating for IndiGo next month on a six-month contract, extendable to 18 months. Norse CEO Bjorn Tore Larsen sees IndiGo as a key partner, while IndiGo aims to expand beyond its 600+ short-haul fleet into long-haul routes as it awaits its Airbus order. The economic risk of the new routes is borne by IndiGo, with guaranteed income for Norse.

Iberia cede a Air Nostrum la ruta Santiago-Madrid

  • Miguel Praga
  • 8 February 2025
✈ Iberia shifts to using Air Nostrum's 100-seat CRJ 1000 aircraft instead of Airbus A320, with up to 180 seats, at Santiago de Compostela's Lavacolla Airport, as traveler demand drops. Ryanair also reduces its presence. The change is attributed to the high-speed AVE rail service's 22 daily connections, offering 58,000 weekly seats. Ryanair and Air Europa continue operations from La Coruña and Vigo to Madrid, with altered frequencies and schedules.
