  • Miguel Praga
  • 8 February 2025
✈️ Norse, successor of Norwegian for long-haul flights, struggles with business model consolidation and has a surplus of aircraft. Air Europa previously leased part of the fleet but returned five Boeing 787s. Norse leased six 787s to IndiGo, an Indian airline experiencing rapid growth, under an ACMI agreement. The first Norse aircraft will begin operating for IndiGo next month on a six-month contract, extendable to 18 months. Norse CEO Bjorn Tore Larsen sees IndiGo as a key partner, while IndiGo aims to expand beyond its 600+ short-haul fleet into long-haul routes as it awaits its Airbus order. The economic risk of the new routes is borne by IndiGo, with guaranteed income for Norse.

  • Miguel Praga
  • 8 February 2025
✈ Iberia shifts to using Air Nostrum's 100-seat CRJ 1000 aircraft instead of Airbus A320, with up to 180 seats, at Santiago de Compostela's Lavacolla Airport, as traveler demand drops. Ryanair also reduces its presence. The change is attributed to the high-speed AVE rail service's 22 daily connections, offering 58,000 weekly seats. Ryanair and Air Europa continue operations from La Coruña and Vigo to Madrid, with altered frequencies and schedules.

  • Miguel Praga
  • 7 February 2025
🛫 Charles Cartier is no longer leading Air Mauritius as of this Thursday, with a trio of directors taking over amidst chaos, including accusations, resignations, and various anomalies. The airline is facing internal divisions, political battles, consistent aircraft malfunctions, delays, cancellations, and frequent luggage losses. Air Mauritius, publicly owned and operating to 30 destinations with a fleet of 10 planes, including four Airbus A330 and A350 each, survived bankruptcy during the pandemic with public aid. IAG owns 10% of the airline. The turmoil started last year when employees sent a letter to the Parliament exposing unjust dismissals and authority abuses, leading to the recent dismissal of Cartier by the board.

Jornada caótica en la aviación de Italia por paros y un incendio

  • Miguel Praga
  • 6 February 2025
🛫 Italian tourism newspapers publish a monthly calendar of transport strikes affecting trains, coaches, urban buses, controllers, pilots, ground staff, and other aviation workers. Strikes are usually not catastrophic, with short durations and the country continuing to function. On Wednesday, strikes involved ground staff at Malpensa, Fiumicino, Naples, Catania, and Venice airports. Additionally, a fire at Ciampino's control tower in Rome, evacuated and suspending flights, worsened the situation. Ryanair is the main operator at Ciampino. Milan and Lombardy trains stopped for 24 hours. Baggage handlers' mobilization significantly impacted Wizz Air, Easyjet, and Ryanair, with ITA advising travelers of potential flight stoppages.
