  • 24 February 2025
✈ Boeing considers returning to Russia three years after cutting ties due to the Ukraine invasion. Russia reports 34 of its 66 A320 aircraft are grounded due to a lack of spare parts. Russian officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Denís Mánturov and Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, have not yet received an official request from Boeing, despite openness to the idea. Western sanctions have plunged Russian aviation into crisis, leading to a significant increase in air incidents.

Un trolley, el gasto añadido más común en las low cost

  • 23 February 2025
📍 In the airline industry, "ancillary" revenues, once minor, now constitute 25-30% of total earnings, boosted by low-cost carriers' creativity. A study indicates checked luggage is the top ancillary service among 25% of low-cost passengers, followed by travel insurance and paid seat selection (23-24%). Delayed payments are used by 18% of travelers, and 20% opt for rental cars. Traditional airlines see paid seat selection as the most popular add-on, with travel insurance and additional luggage following. Delayed payments are more common than in low-cost carriers; however, only just over 10% purchase rental cars. Airlines globally offer unique products; Frontier has a 30-day unlimited flight pass, Ryanair's Family Plus ensures children sit with parents. Frontier and Spirit in the U.S. have 10 à la carte onboard products; Ryanair has nine, with the most combinations of priority services and luggage options.

📱 Visit Scotland shifts its tourism strategy to focus on creating social media content rather than providing in-person info: betting big on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram. The majority of travelers make key decisions before their trip, influencing their time and spending in Scotland. From 126 pre-pandemic information offices, only 25 remain, with plans to close them soon despite some opposition from local businesses.

Cuando un juez decide cómo operan las pistas de El Prat

  • Miguel Praga
  • 22 February 2025
🛫 A judicial decision mandates that aircraft at Barcelona's El Prat Airport depart from the shorter, sea-adjacent runway, defying global norms where the longer runway is typically used for takeoffs to accommodate heavier aircraft. This unique arrangement is due to local residents' complaints about noise, resulting in a ruling to limit overflight of nearby homes. Debate on this issue resurfaced during consultations for airport expansion, with suggestions to revert to conventional runway usage before investing in enlargement.

La locura ‘woke’ en la aviación

💣 Delta Air Lines responded to social media allegations linking a recent crash in Toronto to the airline's hiring practices, particularly prioritizing women pilots. Donald Trump previously criticized American for its diversity hiring after an unrelated incident. Investigations have not substantiated Trump's claims. Delta maintains its crew is fully qualified and FAA-certified, with the male captain having experience since 2007, and the female first officer being trained for her role 10 months ago, since 2024. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with some indications pointing to a detached wing.

Caos en el mega hub aéreo de Estambul por la nevada

  • Miguel Praga
  • 22 February 2025
❄ Istanbul's Turkish Airlines hub, one of the world's largest, experienced chaos due to an intense snowfall, resulting in hundreds of flight cancellations. The turmoil started on Thursday and was significant on Friday, with service normalization expected from Saturday, despite forecasts of possible new snowfalls. On Friday, 45% of flights were canceled at the city's second airport, with at least 30% expected to be suspended today, and slightly fewer issues on Sunday. Accommodating thousands of stranded passengers, especially those on connecting flights without a single ticket, has been very challenging.
