Viajes del Imserso: “preocupación” por la falta de Presupuestos

  • Miguel Praga
  • 31 March 2025
📄 María Teresa Sancho, Imserso's director, is worried about the potential extension of the 2024 budget into 2025 if new budgets aren't passed. The tourism program for seniors risks maintaining its €72 million budget for the third year. Without a price adjustment, hotels and agencies face inadequate compensation; hotels receive €25-26 per night against a real cost of €34, and agencies earn €14.50 per sold seat. Recent seasons saw a decline in participating hotels and quality.

Charles de Gaulle: 4.500 millones para que el aeropuerto no crezca

  • Miguel Praga
  • 31 March 2025
✈ Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, France's largest, plans to spend €4.5 billion over ten years to avoid expansion, a reversal from the usual growth of such facilities. Initially, a projected Terminal 4 was to increase capacity to 168 million passengers by 2050. Instead, the current 88 million passenger capacity will be maintained until at least 2035, aided by new state taxes limiting demand. Funds will focus on decarbonizing ground operations, enhancing multimodal train-plane connections, and reducing connection times, with the Paris metro line, Lisa, extending to Terminal 2.

La hotelera líder en Cataluña clama contra la tasa turística: “Es un abuso”

  • Miguel Praga
  • 31 March 2025
🏨 Ramón Vernet, CEO of Best Hotels with 18 hotels and 4,628 rooms in Catalonia, criticizes the Generalitat's decision to double the tourist tax to potentially €15 per person per night. He argues that the already highest tourist tax in Europe will hurt Barcelona's competitiveness, as a couple could pay up to €160 in a week. Vernet suggests using the tax revenue for infrastructure rather than housing issues, which he believes hotels did not cause.

  • Miguel Praga
  • 30 March 2025
🛫 Bottled water prices at Spanish airports increased from 1 euro to 2.50 and 3 euros, marking a 150% hike. The article questions how this aligns with salary increases, pension rises, or other known variables and criticizes state-owned airport management for the unexplained price surge.

  • 30 March 2025
🚨 Incident at Madrid-Barajas Airport: On the night of January 26-27, an unexpected blackout occurred on the runways, disrupting the airport with the highest traffic in Spain, which accommodated 66 million passengers in 2024. The airport's ground lighting failed during aircraft approaches. Fast response and professionalism of Aena's signaling staff resolved the critical incident. Senator Aniceto Javier Armas has requested government clarification and preventive measures in the Senate. The government claims it was an "exceptional" event with no operational impact or planes in final approach.

Viajes del Imserso: máxima expectación ante los nuevos pliegos

  • Miguel Praga
  • 30 March 2025
🏖 Six companies—Ávoris, Mundiplan, W2M, Travel Live, Senior Plan, and Soltour—are contenders for managing Imserso's senior travel program, marking the highest number of candidates to date. Final decisions to bid will be made once the terms are reviewed, which are soon to be sent to the Council of Ministers for approval. Ávoris aims to renew its victory from two years ago despite sanctions; Mundiplan seeks to re-enter after being excluded last time; Senior Plan promises high-quality, sustainable offers. W2M and Travel Live (Nautalia) as well as Soltour, pending honest terms, are also interested. Viajes El Corte Inglés opts out due to low profitability.

  • 29 March 2025
🏖 Riu constructed the Boabab hotel on Petite Côte, south of Dakar, Senegal. A robbery occurred at the hotel in late January, followed by another armed attack at Les Mangiers de Guéréo in Popenguine in the same week. Despite these incidents, Senegal, which annually attracts about two million tourists, contributing to 7% of its national wealth, is considered safe. Authorities have increased surveillance following the two attacks within a two-month period.

Acusan a Volotea de cobrar a sus clientes sin permiso

  • Miguel Praga
  • 29 March 2025
🛫 Volotea, with significant presence in France, has been charging customers retroactively for a new aviation tax using their banking details without notification or authorization, facing criticism from Guillaume Beurdeley, secretary of the travel agencies' association. Air France absorbed the cost for tickets sold before the tax was announced, while Transavia passed it on to customers. The situation led to bureaucratic chaos when earlier tax proposals fell through with the government's budget, prompting refunds. The industry association has reported Volotea to the Directorate of Competition, Consumption, and Fraud Repression.

Un Airbus A320 que volaba a Málaga pierde a un piloto

  • Miguel Praga
  • 29 March 2025
🛫 On March 25, an Iberia Express flight from Madrid to Palma de Mallorca declared an emergency due to a crew member's medical issue. A similar incident occurred with a Eurowings Airbus A320 flying from Prague to Málaga, which had to divert to Barcelona because one of the pilots became unwell. Air traffic controllers provided priority landing on runway 24R after the plane aborted the first approach. The increased workload in the cockpit was noted due to solo piloting and challenging weather conditions.
