Se derrumba el turismo en Irlanda y nadie sabe por qué

  • Miguel Praga
  • 3 April 2025
🏖️ In February, tourist numbers in Ireland plummeted by 30% compared to the previous year. American tourists decreased by 88% from pre-pandemic levels and 35% year-over-year, while visits from French and German tourists dropped by 29% and 18%, respectively. The summer forecast anticipates even fewer visitors than in 2021, raising considerable concern among Irish experts. Shifts in popular culture, such as "Star Wars" and "Game of Thrones" previously boosting tourism and now shows like "Emily in Paris" or "White Lotus" taking the spotlight, could influence Ireland's international perception.

Rusia perderá 200 aviones de Boeing y Airbus

  • Miguel Praga
  • 3 April 2025
🚀 Russian airlines are facing a deep crisis due to Western sanctions, needing to dispose of at least 200 passenger aircraft, mostly from Airbus and Boeing. Around 30% of Russia's approximately 700 Western-made aircraft will be dismantled, as sanctions from the Ukraine invasion block importation of parts for repairs and maintenance. Only 10% of flights by Russian companies use locally made planes, with hopes pinned on the MS-21 and SJ-100 models, none of which have been received by airlines yet.

Así pretende el Imserso frenar el deterioro de los viajes

  • Miguel Praga
  • 3 April 2025
🏖 Imserso is reforming its senior tourism program to halt degradation and ensure compliance, following issues with Turismo Social (Ávoris) over the last two years. The reforms, to be detailed in the upcoming tender specifications, include stricter penalties for non-compliance and increased funding for service quality improvements. Hotels in the program must now be at least three-star and offer leisure activities, alongside producing informative brochures on active aging and elder abuse prevention. Additionally, the travel management companies must evenly distribute 36% of each lot's places monthly throughout the campaign.

  • 3 April 2025
✈ Easyjet inaugurated its 10th UK base at London Southend Airport, located east of the capital on the Thames and reachable in 45 minutes. The airport, also serving Essex's dense population, was previously flown by Ryanair and the now-defunct Flybe. Following a pandemic-induced downturn, Easyjet returned three years ago with routes from Faro and Mallorca. The new base introduces three aircraft, creating 140 jobs, and will offer up to 122 weekly flights this summer, including future destinations like Lanzarote, Barcelona, and Salzburg for ski season. Easyjet also operates from London Gatwick, Luton, Stansted, and recently Southampton, focusing on Mediterranean holiday destinations such as Alicante, Mallorca, Ibiza, and Málaga.

Enésimo retraso del ETIAS europeo y entra en uso el ETA británico

  • Miguel Praga
  • 3 April 2025
🛂 ETIAS border control equipment has been unused in Spain for over a year, with operational delays now extending to late 2026. Meanwhile, the UK, as of Wednesday, requires non-national travelers to obtain electronic authorization. Tourists complete an online process, paying 12 euros, typically receiving permission within two days, then presenting it at borders. The UK's identical model to the EU's had its price pre-launch increased to 19 euros. Travelers face issues not at the border but with poorly trained transport operators who may wrongly deny entry to those without the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), valid for two years upon issuance.

La ruptura entre Ávoris y VECI, sin visos de solución

  • Miguel Praga
  • 3 April 2025
💰 Ávoris and Viajes El Corte Inglés, Spain's leading travel groups, remain at odds in 2025 despite reconciliation efforts. No progress has been made since Ávoris aimed to restore commercial relations at the start of the year. The conflict escalated when Ávoris hired Toni Frau, former Traveltool director, and made decisions against VECI's interests. Juan Carlos González, Ávoris's director general, could influence a potential reconciliation after breaking their longstanding Imserso agreement, which sparked the dispute. The disagreement led both companies to withdraw agent incentives for selling each other's tour operator products, inadvertently boosting sales for rival firms in the industry.

Ryanair abre la puerta a comprar aviones chinos

  • Miguel Praga
  • 2 April 2025
💸 Michael O'Leary, CEO of Ryanair, expresses willingness to add China's C919 to the fleet, challenging Boeing-Airbus duopoly. O'Leary mentioned that if the C919 is between 10%-20% cheaper than Airbus, Ryanair would consider it. The C919, certified by China's CAAC, is also seeking EASA approval for European market access. Comac aims to increase C919 production to 75 units in 2025, a 50% rise from the initial target of 50, and reach 200 aircraft by 2029.

Begoña y Air Europa: las cloacas del poder a la vista

  • Miguel Praga
  • 2 April 2025
🧙 In Spain, a scandal involving Begoña Gómez, Air Europa, the Public Prosecutor's Office, Aldama, and even the Moncloa has emerged, reflecting a normalization of corruption in the country. Despite the gravity of the allegations, life continues as usual with no significant public outrage or accountability, suggesting a deep-rooted acceptance of corruption in the tourism sector and beyond. The case highlights how controlling judges and prosecutors is seen as vital for maintaining impunity in the face of widespread corruption.
