  • 23 April 2025
✈ Iberia remains unaffected by the recent decline in travel from Europe to the United States, despite challenges posed by Trump's policies. CEO Marco Sansavini of the airline confirmed stable demand for their primary long-haul market. In October, Iberia will add Orlando to its network, operating flights from Madrid four times a week with new Airbus A321XLRs, already in use for Boston and Washington routes. This summer season, Iberia offers 140 weekly flights to/from the US, a 14% increase from last year, providing 1.1 million seats. The airline's US destinations include daily flights to New York (2), Chicago (1), Miami (2), Dallas (1), Los Angeles (1), and Washington (1), plus thrice-weekly flights to San Francisco and twice-daily to Boston.

“Los nuevos pliegos del Imserso incluyen sorpresas kafkianas”

  • Miguel Praga
  • 23 April 2025
🏨 La Mesa del Turismo urges the Spanish Government for immediate action on key issues like Aena's airport network deficiencies, new Imserso tender complications, and rampant labor absenteeism in tourism. They highlight the urgent need for airport infrastructure expansion in Málaga, Alicante, Valencia, and Barcelona, noting Madrid-Barajas has a 25% growth capacity. Also, they demand increased compensation for hotels and travel agencies from the Imserso program due to unsustainable costs and low remuneration of 21-23 euros not covering expenses. The organization also seeks to address absenteeism with CEOE and the Ministry of Labor by suggesting that mutual insurance doctors manage sick leave. Additionally, they point out that 90% of tourists in Spain are concentrated in six regions, totaling 84.6 million visitors, while the remaining 11 regions share 9.2 million tourists.

Viajes del Imserso: mano dura tras los incumplimientos de Ávoris

  • Miguel Praga
  • 23 April 2025
🛫 Imserso, Spain's senior tourism program, penalizes Turismo Social (Ávoris) with a potential fine of up to €80 million for bid inflation and irregularities. New contracts impose stricter sanctions, including fines on 100% of turnover, five times higher than previous ones, and penalties between €1.5 million and €80 million. Adjudicators must submit documentation shortly after winning the contract; failure to comply risks a €6 million fine and contract loss. Key changes include separate adjudication of coastal and island lots and enhanced oversight. Results are expected by early June.

Boeing, la ‘gran’ víctima del caos arancelario de Trump

  • Miguel Praga
  • 22 April 2025
💸 Boeing's shares fell 3% on Monday due to tariff chaos from Trump's measures, impacting the American airplane manufacturer first. Investors are concerned as Boeing returns planes to the U.S. that were ready for delivery in China. The company's Q1 results are expected to show losses of nearly $500 million, not accounting for Trump's April tariffs. Chinese airlines account for one in five Boeing planes sold; currently, the U.S.-China tariff escalation favors Airbus, which also cannot meet demand.

La ‘trola’ de la prensa inglesa sobre Mallorca

  • Miguel Praga
  • 22 April 2025
🚩 British press claim a drop in visits to Mallorca due to anti-tourism protests, particularly affecting British travelers. However, Mallorca press reports excellent occupancy rates and high prices during Easter with no signs of crisis. British media accused of flagrant lies as British airlines maintain or increase flights to Mallorca. Reports of Spain persecuting tourists are contradicted by facts, with only certain regulations like new Airbnb licenses in Madrid, Málaga, and future plans in Barcelona, and dress codes in some areas.
