España derrota a la turismofobia con otro récord turístico

  • Juan Mestre
  • 11 January 2025
🇪🇸 Spain retained its position as the world's second most visited country in 2024, only behind France. Tourist numbers reached 88.5 million by November 2024, surpassing the entire year of 2023's 85 million and 2019's 83 million pre-pandemic. Despite campaigns of tourism-phobia, no Spanish destinations lost tourists; Cataluña attracted 18.8 million (up 9.9%), Baleares exceeded 15 million (up 6.1%), and Canarias approached 14 million (up 9.6%) visitors. Canarias' anti-tourism protests dwindled with no events since October.

El ‘efecto Instagram’ sacude el mundo del turismo

  • Juan Mestre
  • 4 January 2025
📷 According to the 2019 Avis Travel Trends report, 58% of travelers aged 18-34 are influenced by the aesthetics of destinations seen on social media. MMGY Global notes that 34% of American travelers are swayed by TikTok. Instagram's impact has led to overcrowding at Caló des Moro in Mallorca, with queues of up to three hours and gatherings of 1,000 people on a 30 square meter beach. Bali's popularity among influencers has forced local authorities to set new visitor guidelines due to disruptive tourist behavior.

Los europeos rechazan los cambios de Google en las búsquedas de hoteles

  • Juan Mestre
  • 3 January 2025
📨 Google, influenced by the EU's Digital Markets Act, scaled back details in hotel searches, testing a minimal display—just a blue line with the hotel's name—in Germany, Belgium, and Estonia. Legal Director Oliver Bethell noted that users were dissatisfied, taking longer to find information, leading to fewer hotel accesses and increased search abandonment. Google ceased the trial and is seeking a resolution with the European Commission to address the regulatory concerns without causing user experience issues.
