  • Alex Cuenca
  • 17 December 2024
📍 In Madrid, CEOE and Mesa del Turismo held a gathering with key tourism business organizations like CEHAT, ALA, CEAV, and CLIA. Exceltur was notably absent, citing scheduling conflicts. Juan Molas emphasized uniting against illegal tourist housing, staffing crises, inadequate EU funding, airport deficiencies, and illicit taxi services. CEOE's Juan Cierco urged tackling these issues, which overshadowed 2024 and threaten 2025. Rosario Sánchez, Secretary of State for Tourism, faced criticism over ineffective public-private collaboration and the controversial documentation registry from Juan Molas.

Una visión global del ecologismo

✈ Global aviation expects 5 billion passengers and a turnover of one trillion euros next year, signaling that Amsterdam and Dublin's environmental impacts are relatively small on a worldwide scale. Despite pioneering efforts, Europe's influence on sustainable aviation is deemed minimal compared to the unchecked growth in emerging countries. A profound public indifference towards pollution control persists, even as nearly 60% of the world's population is flying, with no signs of a trend change.

También peligra el turismo canadiense en Cuba

  • Alex Cuenca
  • 14 December 2024
🏖 Sunwing Vacations Group, a Canadian wholesaler, removed 26 Cuban hotels from its portfolio after nearly 30 years due to recurring power outages on the island. Canada is the top tourist source for Cuba, intensifying the impact. Notably, a four-day blackout occurred in late October, followed by hurricane-related outages and another on December 4 due to a major power plant failure. Tourism, Cuba's primary income source, faces challenges as visitor numbers decline, affecting the country's ability to rectify issues causing tourist dissatisfaction.

🏖️ Tui UK observes increased holiday sales to Egypt, Bulgaria, and Tunisia over Spain, attributed to Spain's high prices. The Guardian reports Tui's CEO, Sebastian Ebel, noting holiday prices remain high compared to 2019. Travelers with a budget of €1,000 per person seek alternatives offered by Tui. Mallorca is expected to be packed in summer; the Canary Islands are currently full in winter. Sumar pide encarecer los billetes de avión y cruceros

  • Alex Cuenca
  • 13 December 2024
🚨 PSOE and Sumar clash over sustainable mobility law, with Sumar's leader Yolanda Díaz suggesting tax increases for airlines and cruises to match public transport's VAT. The Spanish government must pass this law by year-end to access European recovery funds. The proposal could raise VAT to 10% and significantly increase costs for international flights and cruises, currently exempt. Sumar opposes major airport expansions in Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat, labeling them economically and ecologically unsound, while advocating to reduce bus routes from 77 to 22.
