Baleares prohibirá nuevos pisos turísticos y endurecerá las multas

  • Alex Cuenca
  • 7 March 2025
📌 In Baleares, new tourist accommodation in multi-family homes will be banned, with increased quality requirements for renewals and platforms mandated to check registration numbers. Owners operating illegally face fines up to 500,000 euros, but with an 80% reduction for switching to social or limited-price rentals. Measures include a swap system to control tourist accommodation numbers and a transitional pool for withdrawn licenses. The ecotax will be seasonal, eliminated in January-February, and increased by 66%-200% during peak months. Cruise ships will pay 2-6 euros per night during high season. A new tax on vacation vehicles, ranging from 30 to 80 euros, aims to offset environmental impact.

La Audiencia Nacional paraliza la sanción millonaria a Booking

  • Alex Cuenca
  • 7 March 2025
📌 Booking's 413 million euro fine by the CNMC has been suspended by Spain's National Court as the company's appeal is pending. The travel search engine won't immediately need to alter two policies marked as abusive by Competencia, involving hotel positioning and a preferential accommodation program. The fine, set on July 30, 2024, was for limiting competition and affecting Spanish hotels, with Booking holding 70-90% market share in Spain. The European Court of Justice ruled on September 19, 2024, against Booking's price parity clauses for being anti-competitive. Up to 400 Spanish hotels are considering legal action for potential compensation from price restrictions.

Boeing, Airbus e IAG, en vilo por los aranceles de Trump

  • Alex Cuenca
  • 7 March 2025
💸 President Donald Trump's announced tariffs have raised concerns in the aerospace industry, with Boeing warning of risks to the supply chain, potentially increasing costs and impacting the availability of key aircraft components. The CEO of Boeing, Kelly Ortberg, indicated that trade restrictions could cause delays and raise production costs. Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury suggested that Airbus could prioritize deliveries to customers outside the US to avoid tariff-related difficulties. Airbus has production facilities in Mobile, Alabama, but Faury stressed the industry's North Atlantic interdependencies. IAG, the parent company of Iberia and Vueling, expressed worry over the trade war's effects, noting that the US accounted for 17% of its revenues last year and that tariffs could disrupt markets and economic confidence, potentially driving cost inflation.

“Es falso que exista masificación y colapso en Mallorca”

  • Alex Cuenca
  • 5 March 2025
🏖 Javier Vich, President of the FEHM, addressed misconceptions about Mallorca at the ITB Berlin, emphasizing that the destination is not overcrowded. Disputing generalizations, he compared Mallorca's popular spots to busy landmarks like Paris's Eiffel Tower or New York's Central Park. Vich rejected proposed summer ecotax increases, citing feedback from tour operators. He revealed positive forecasts for the summer season, with a 5-6% tourist increase over last winter. Hotel openings in Mallorca started at 34% in early 2024, reaching 52% in March, 92% in April, and 100% by May.

  • 5 March 2025
✈ Ryanair postpones full elimination of paper boarding passes to November 3, 2025, six months later than expected. Currently, about 80% of passengers use digital format. The change aims to significantly reduce paper use and eliminate airport check-in fees as check-ins will be online-only. The move is projected to save over 300 tons of waste annually and improve passenger experience with real-time updates and alternate flight options via the "myRyanair" app.

Aena acude a los tribunales para subir las tasas aéreas

  • Alex Cuenca
  • 5 March 2025
✈ Aena appealed to the National Court on January 29 against CNMC's decision to keep airport charges frozen at €10.35 per passenger for 2025. Aena's appeal seeks a 0.54% increase to set charges at €10.40 per passenger, expecting to boost annual revenue by €16 million. This is based on an anticipated 320 million passengers for 2025 in Spain. CNMC rejected the initial proposal in December due to regulatory norms of freezing charges until 2026 despite Aena's argument for reflecting over €450 million annual infrastructure investments. Summary: Aena took to court on January 29 to challenge CNMC's freeze on 2025 airport fees at €10.35, pushing for a 0.54% hike to €10.40 per passenger. If successful, Aena could see an annual revenue increase of €16 million, with estimations of 320 million passengers in Spain for 2025. This comes despite a 2024 increase of over four percentage points and amid criticisms from airlines like Ryanair about the negative impact on competitiveness.
