✈️ Ryanair, during winter 2025-2026, plans over 1 million seat cuts in Spanish airports but will increase overall capacity by 0.5%, adding 100,000 seats, especially in the Mediterranean. Northern cities and islands, like Santiago and Tenerife Norte, face over 70% capacity drops. Cuts also impact Madrid (-3%) and Barcelona (-5%). Threats of another million-seat reduction loom unless Aena reduces airport fees. CEO Michael O'Leary will discuss these issues with the Spanish government in October.

✈ El Hierro, 2023: AFIS issues cause flight disruptions. This past Sunday, a Gran Canaria flight couldn't land due to the AFIS system, forcing passengers to stay overnight in Gran Canaria. Monday, they were rerouted via Tenerife. Senator Javier Armas calls for AFIS replacement with ATC, citing safety and operational issues. The AFIS system is criticized for causing weekend airport shutdowns. In June 2024, Coalición Canaria requested ATC implementation for El Hierro and La Gomera airports.

Ryanair aims to finalize the agreement by October 31. USO prioritizes Spanish legislation and workers' rights. Agreement closure threatened without consensus.
